Qua tính toán sơ bộ, mỗi robot co thể that thế 3-5 nhân viên y tế. Ngoài việc giảm rủi ro lây nhiễm, việc sử dụng robot còn tạo điều kiện để nhân viên y tế tập trung thời gian, công sức phục vụ, chăm sóc và điều trị bệnh nhân nặng được tốt hơn.
Phiên bản Vibot-1a sử dụng kỹ thuật dẫn đường bằng vạch từ và định vị bằng thẻ nhận dạng. Công nghệ này tuy đơn giản nhưng có độ tin cậy cao, cho phép robot tự di chuyển trong khu vực cách ly để thực hiện các nhiệm vụ.
Vibot-1a có khả năng phát hiện và tránh va chạm vật cản nhờ các cảm biến trang bị ở phía trước và phía sau. Với khối nguồn pin công suất lớn và trạm sạc tự động, Vibot-1a có thể làm việc liên tục 12 giờ và tự động tìm về trạm để sạc khi cạn nguồn.
Ngày 7/4/2020, Tổ chuyên gia do Bộ trưởng Bộ KH&CN thành lập đã họp đánh giá kết quả giai đoạn 1 nghiên cứu, chế tạo robot Vibot-1a. Theo đó, 100% thành viên tổ chuyên gia đã đồng ý thông qua và nhất trí kiến nghị Bộ Y tế xem xét cho phép sử dụng tại các cơ sở cách ly.
Đây là thành công quan trọng, có ý nghĩa to lớn trong lúc dịch bệnh đang diễn biến hết sức phức tạp trên toàn thế giới, qua đó khẳng định trình độ của các nhà khoa học Việt Nam.
